Guitar, Piano and Voice Lessons

Hi! My name is Selena Tibert and I am a musician and teaching artist located in Brooklyn. I perform in two bands, have played many venues throughout the city and have toured coast to coast. I have a BFA in Musical Theatre and have worked professionally in theatres across the country.I have been teaching beginner to intermediate guitar, piano and voice privately for 5 years. I teach all ages!

Piano

  • Sheet music, technique & theory

  • Major and minor scales/chords

  • Pop songs and classical pieces

Students will learn the basics of piano including sheet music, scales, chords, rhythms and major/minor keys. We will learn basic music theory and put it to practice in the songs that we play throughout class.Students will learn how to play with both hands and use exercises and musical pieces to build dexterity in their fingers. Learning sheet music and chords will help students be able to translate songs they hear into something they can play, and even sing along to if they want. This class is for beginner to intermediate students. All ages welcome!

Voice

  • Head, chest, and mixed voice

  • Pop and musical theatre rep

  • Style and tone

Voice students will work on pop/rock and/or musical theatre styles. We will start each lesson with instructional warm-ups meant to build our vocal agility and range. We will then spend the rest of the class working on material the student has prepared and wants to work on. I would also be happy to recommend material that fits their voice type and level. We will learn and work on vocal techniques that will bring the material to life. If the student is interested in musical theatre and acting we can also work on some acting and audition coaching in addition to our vocal technique. All levels of ability are welcome! Whether you enjoy singing for fun or want to pursue a career as a vocalist, this class is for you!

Guitar

  • Basic chords & song structure

  • Barre chords & tabs & soloing

  • Finger picking & sheet music

Students will learn chords, rhythms, tabs and fingerpicking used across genres in music today. Students will learn chords using a combination of tabs and demonstration. Students are welcome to suggest songs they would like to learn, or just work on material I suggest.Beginners will learn popular chords and basic rhythms so they can start their guitar journey and begin to play songs.Intermediate students can expand their knowledge and begin to learn tabs and finger picking technique. If interested, students can also learn theory and sheet music. These lessons will give students the tools to continue their guitar journey beyond the class, with the skills to be able to learn on their own. This class is for beginner to intermediate students. All ages welcome!

We have been so impressed by Selena’s unique way of teaching our child piano. Her teaching method is thorough and instructive yet relatable to our child’s level. Her teaching has help build his solid foundation in piano as well as keeping him interested and excited for his lessons and he enjoys practicing daily. We are very thankful for her expertise. She is not only patient and encouraging but has made the weekly lessons a highlight in our child’s education. Thanks for being so amazing!

My teen has really enjoyed taking lessons from Selena. We started out with 8 lessons to try it out and will be doing more. Selena is very nice and encouraging and helps my teen with songs they are interested in as well as her own suggestions making lessons very appealing.

Sam appreciates the way feedback is given, and especially the tips that Ms. Selena gives to help him remember the concepts being taught. He also likes that they are taking things slowly so that he can really learn what he is doing. Plus, she's nice!
